Product Logo Design

How is a product logo different from a corporate identity? Simply put, a product logo is a mark that helps to brand a particular product or service, whereas a corporate identity helps to brand an entire company. As an example, Oreos are a product made by the NabiscoWorld Company. The Oreo logo is the product logo whereas the NabiscoWorld logo is the company's corporate identity. Product logos and corporate identities may or may not look like they came from the same family. In the Oreo case, they do. In other cases, such as Olay, a product line made by Procter & Gamble, they are distinctly different, and with reason.

> SEE THE WORK

The choice a company makes whether to market its product solely under the product name/logo or whether to include the corporate identity can be a tough one. Often current product/company market share plays an important role in making the decision, as does your business strategy, the size of your target market (existing or planned), any other existing brands produced by the company, etc. Your competition's strategy and positioning is important as well.

When designing a product logo, you need to take into consideration whether the product logo will function as a stand-alone, or as part of a family. If your logo is part of a family of product lines, you'll need to consider things like trademark symbols, existing color palettes, existing type families, taglines, etc. And of course, you'll need to consider your competition. We offer design audit services as well as competitive research and analysis to help you make the important decisions when designing or redesigning your product logo.
